Fit Followers is a recent addition to fitlinda.com that will serve to recognize people I know who are truly an inspiration to me. These are friends in my community who have set goals for themselves and have attained them through nothing short of sheer fortitude and determination. You may recognize their faces from my classes or from the local area. They are inspiring beyond their fitness. I hope my introducing you to them motivates you too.
Name: Joann Spatola
Occupation: I’ve worked at my family’s business, Joseph’s Catering, http://www.cateringbyjosephs.com, as a cook my whole life. I work long hours on my feet and being physically fit helps with my stamina. I have also married into Spatola’s Pizza, http://www.spatolaspizza.com. Being in the food business has made it a challenge to watch my weight. Working out regularly and being consistent has helped me to manage my weight.
Age: 54 and proud of it!
Hobbies/Interests: My biggest interest is working out or having some kind of physical activity. I love to take walks, especially at Lake Galena. I enjoy being outdoors working in my yard. My other passion is going to the beach or anywhere near water.
What does a normal week’s workout look like for you?
Monday: lift weights / Zumba
Wednesday: Spin Class
Thursday: Linda’s Body Works Class
Friday: lift weights/ Zumba
Why do you work out?
I work out for peace of mind…to know that I am doing something good for my health. I love the energy it gives me and how strong I feel afterwards. It is also a good mood booster. I consider it therapeutic and “my time”. Looking and feeling good in my clothes doesn’t hurt either.
What motivates you?
I want to be a good role model to my 3 kids. I also like the camaraderie in the group classes at my gym. We are all there for the same reason. Having this common bond pushes me harder. About 15 years ago, I met some of my dearest friends working out at a gym.
What quality or characteristic do you possess that makes you most proud or confident?
I think of myself as a very strong, resilient person. I had a benign brain tumor removed 2 yrs ago. I had a very quick recovery and was back to the gym in 6 weeks. I was told it was because I was in good physical shape.
Future fitness and/or life goals:
Run a 5k. Drink more water.
Start kickboxing again. Kickboxing was my favorite workout. I started having wrist issues and had to stop. I’m working on fixing the wrist so that I can kick some butt again.
